The Promenaders Square Dance Club was founded in Oroville, California in 2013. What began as a small group initially met in a retired courthouse next to the Oroville Auditorium on Myers Street. Before long, the club moved into the newly named Oroville Convention Center, which had once been the old Oroville Auditorium. With its many improvements and a spacious wooden dance floor, it provided a wonderful home for our dancers.
The Promenaders Square Dance Club is officially recognized as a nonprofit charitable organization and is registered under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. This designation means that the club operates exclusively for educational and charitable purposes, with all of its resources and activities dedicated to promoting the art and enjoyment of modern square dancing. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the Promenaders are able to receive tax-deductible contributions and support, which helps ensure the continuation of our programs, community outreach, and cultural enrichment efforts.
In 2025, the decision was made to relocate the Oroville Promenaders to Chico, with the expectation of reaching a larger audience and drawing from a wider community of dancers.
Our new home is at 750 East Moss Avenue in Chico, California, 95926. We are excited to partner with the Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church, who have graciously opened their beautiful hall to us. It’s the perfect place for the Promenaders to grow, share the joy of square dancing, and welcome new friends into our community.
In fact, many of our dancers were already making the trip from Chico and Paradise to join us in Oroville. Moving the club to Chico not only makes it easier for most of our current members, but it also opens the door for even more dancers to join in the fun, making the move both practical and exciting!
With the move to Chico, the club is also considering a name change from the Oroville Promenaders to simply the "Promenaders", to better reflect our new home and fresh beginnings!
